Interview Experience

The interview was divided into 3 parts. There was an HR interview which had the typical HR questions such as why Samsung, why South Korea, will you be able to adjust, where do you see yourself in 5 years, tell your strengths and weaknesses, give instances of your team work and team effort, few questions here and there from the resume, etc. Then there is a technical test. There is a problem statement given and we have to ideate about it. The technical interview starts with the discussion of our approach to that problem statement. They keep on cross questioning, etc. Then they asked few technical questions from the Resume and my profile.

Project Work

My role was Software but I had to a lot of research work in the same (although this is very team dependent). I was working with ARM and RISVV processors. I can’t talk about it in detail since I have a NDA with the company.

Overall Experience

It was really great. The people there are very supportive and friendly despite the language barrier. The work wasn’t hectic most of the time. Apart from the job itself, we got to explore a lot of new places, activities, leisure in South Korea during our weekends.

Organizational Culture

There is a hierarchy in each team. However, as fas as interns are concerned, everyone is very friendly and supportive. I had real fun with my teammates. The outings we had were pretty exciting. All my team mates had worked in the company for over 10 years. It was really nice to know their perspective not just about the technical work but about the company and life in general. I would again repeat that there might be a language barrier since they can not understand English well. But luckily in my case it was manageable. You might find quite a few Indians as well, although I had none in my team. My mentors and Part Leaders were very supportive as well.

Networking Opportunities

There is a well established community of IIT Alumni over there. It was great meeting them. They have more or less all the solutions to our problems. Apart from them, even the team and the work division itself offers a lot of opportunities for networking. As I had mentioned earlier, I got to know more or less everyone in my team. We have great discussion during our breaks and outside working hours.

PPO & Future Prospects

The company only provides full time offers to UGs through PPOs. They are very keen on hiring employees who would work long term in Samsung. We should be able to portray that to them. This year, they have given PPO to 9/10 interns from India. As far as IITB is concerned, all 3 of us got the PPO.

Recommendation & Advice

Learning a Korean might be a plus point :)
