Leetcode for DSA and online sources like GeeksForGeeks to prepare for Data Science specific questions like probability, statistics and basic ML

Interview Experience

Test: Aptitude and questions related to core branch Interview: Discussion on most of the resume projects in a lot of depth and some Linear Algebra/ matrices

Other Applications

Interviewed in Google and Uber for SDE role where DSA was asked mostly hard level on leetcode, most questions were based on graphs

Interviewed in IDFC First for Data Science role where 2-3 puzzles were asked(from gfg) and some tricky questions on probability+resume projects

Project Work

My role was Research in ML. The specific field I worked on was Computer Vision to automate industrial systems (1.detection and localization of defects on reflective copper surfaces, from literature review on the sensors/cameras and lighting conditions to be used to building the entire pipeline and 2. automated generation of test sequences and instructions from electrical circuit pdfs)

Overall Experience

It really depends on what kind of projects you are being assigned. For me, computer vision was something which I had never explored before so I got to learn a lot. You could also ask your mentors to assign you a different project if you think your current project is not interesting and challenging to you. Its a research department so there are always new and interesting problem statements coming up. There is complete freedom to how you want to tackle that problem. Regular discussions with your mentors help you learn a lot.

Organizational Culture

The work culture is really nice and chill. There are no strict time rules to follow. You could go and leave whenever you want. The mentors do not put any pressure on you but at the same time they are extremely helpful. I mostly interacted with the full timers who were our mentors. The hiring manager in research departments do not interact with interns mostly. My co-interns were from different colleges and great people. It was really fun to get to know about how other colleges function and make some friends in other iits.

Networking Opportunities

Definitely, should be in touch with your entire team. Apart from that, I also built connections with full time employees from other teams.

PPO & Future Prospects

Siemens does not provide PPOs to any intern in the research department. They only hire experienced people and very rarely M.Tech freshers.

Recommendation & Advice

If you are into research, then yes it is an extremely good opportunity for an internship. But if you are looking for a ppo then i would suggest not to go to Siemens research department. You can consider going to another branch within Siemens which is Advanta. They hire freshers and their work is a lot better than the research department. The workflow in research dept can sometimes be slow for example, you might get stuck in your project due to lack of data/resources, so in that case it takes some time to move forward and for that time being you are completely blocked and cant do anything about it. Otherwise Siemens is a really good company to join in later part of your career.

Also, in general interview tip: most companies ask a lot about your resume projects in depth. So, be very thorough with every project on your resume. Its really easy to get caught by the interviewer if you bluff on your resume.
