Domain Targeted

My primary focus was on core hardware engineering positions, specifically at companies specializing in digital design. I have always had a strong preference for the digital side of electrical engineering, so securing a role in that domain was my main priority. However, to ensure I had backup plan, I also prepared extensively for analog design roles.

My core motivation for choosing electrical engineering has always been the tangible nature of the field—the incredible feeling of physically seeing the hardware products and chips I helped design actually working. This initial interest was deeply cemented during my Digital Systems course. Professor Virendra Singh was a major source of motivation for me, and the way the course introduced computer architecture was incredibly fascinating. Working on the single-cycle and multi-cycle processor projects gave me the foundational, hands-on experience I needed and sparked a deep intrest in me towards digital design.

I was not shortlisted for IMC FPGA role interview as I was not able to solve their coding question. I was not interested to go quants, but imc fpga role test made me realise that I should work on verilog coding.

Project Work

I worked on making agentic AI workflow for ECO(engineering change order) in SOC Design flow. I worked in the RTL Design Team of Google Memory Contollers(GMC), Gchips.

Overall Experience

Google has one of best work cultures (based on what i heard from all of my friends and my own experience). You can have flexible timings, you can do work from home for 2 days a week officially(even more if your manager allows). You can work more on some days and less on some days. It doesnt matter how many hours you work until you complete the work. We didnt had the option to choose our project, but most of the interns were working on intresting projects. Every intern will have a host and co host who will guide you through your internship. They have a lot of knowledge and experience. You can learn a lot from them. For hardware interns, there was only one intern per team. So most of the hardware interns did not have co interns. Google pays you for accommodation a fixed amount along with your first month salary. It also provides a relocation bonus for interns. Google provides food in the office for free 4 times a day during the weekdays. You have micro kitchen in every floor where you can grab some snacks. Google also provides cab facility to commute to office. There were many opportunities for upskilling and learning new things from sessions and talks.

Recommendation & Advice

I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in digital design. While project and work might vary based on team which you get alloted to, the company provides a nice environment to learn and grow.
