Ok, so I was not always interested interested in consulting. Initially, I was confused whether tech or non-tech. I was confident that I did not wanted to go in core, simply because at that point of time, I didn’t liked much whatever I studied because I haven’t got the essence of practical applications of what I had learned so far. I took help from some seniors, talked to them in detail about their internship experience and what work is generally there in different profiles and that helped me to eliminate my options. I finally decided to go for consulting in late summers, but still I prepared two resumes - tech and nontech, for safer side.

Preparation Resources

So, when I got the clarity about the profile I wanted to target, I started with guesstimates and case studies (this was during summers). I started with some youtube videos of guesstimates to get the understanding of approach and tricks to solve the questions. Then later, I referred to a book called CIC (Case Interviews Cracked). I also used ‘MConsultingPrep’ youtube channel for case studies. Then, for aptitude practice, I majorly did it from gfg(geeksforgeek) and instaprep.

I am not sure, but my interview was mainly about a project I mentioned in my interview (which was not there in my resume). 1-2 guesstimates framed from my project. And then from resume, majorly discussion was about my skill set and PORs.

Interview Experience

  1. Aptitude Test - it was roughly 30-45 min each, two rounds of tests consecutively.
  2. Interview Round-1 : mainly about Project and PORs, for about 45-50 min
  3. HR Interview Round : around 15-20 min

I don’t think there was any toughest round. It’s just you need to be well prepared for aptitude test (be consistent with practice to improve your speed and accuracy). Practicing doesn’t mean to just solve the questions. One Tip: Every time you sit for practice, keep a timer and solve questions accordingly. Even for interview, I was very nervous and that’s the only thing that I felt was very hard to handle for me. But otherwise, be ready with frequently asked guesstimates and especially the relevant data(like current population of metropolitan cities, gender-based population, literacy etc). Rest the only tip for interview would be - Be confident with the content and tone when you speak, prepare some HR type questions, well prepare your introduction.

Project Work

Hey Guyz, I am Khyati. I am currently a final year student in the dept of Electrical Engineering. I have recently completed my internship at Accenture Global in Bangalore. I was in S&C role. The structure of team at my company was quite unexpected :) My project manager was not from my location, so majorly all the meets were done online. But my mentor/buddy was from my location, so my offline meets were generally with the team present in Bangalore at my office location. Online meets were regular, once a day. Offline meets were weekly.

Since I was in Tech Consulting, so my Project was about Agent Building. I was given a problem statement from midstream supply chain section in industrial domain and I had to make an agent to mitigate the issues caused in the supply chain due to the problem.

Overall Experience

I would say our first 15 days company sponsored hotel stay :) It was fab:)) Also the hampers they gave us, let’s keep it surprise for next people.

I would focus more on speed of solving guesstimates and case studies as well as speaking skills.

Recommendation & Advice

I would say, believe yourself and just be consistent with what you do. You will do it. ALL THE BEST :)

My challenge was mainly with coding part, as I am not a tech enthusiast. I know basic coding but I don’t like doing it. So, that was one part because my project is all about agent building, hence coding. But evenutally, it came in my routine, so it wasn’t hard to overcome it, and since we had chatgpt pro from company, so that also helped a lot in coding and idea refinement of agent.

Both. First part was non-technical where you have to think how the agent should work, what data sets to consider etc. Then technical, how you are actually going to implement it via code.

Honestly, at this point I cannot tell you what skills can make someone successful in consulting domain, as even I also don’t have that much of experience. But to answer to your first question, for consultant, his/her work on a day-to-day based on the project and client they are working with. Long term clients might have some saturation in the work whereas short-term or new clients would have flexibility to implement new ideas. So it majorly depends on the project you are working on. Apart from that, one thing which I observed during my 2 month internship was that, Communication is the most important key in consulting.
