Basic Information

  • Name: Shaileshram S
  • Branch: BTech
  • Company: Texas Instruments
  • Duration: 9 weeks

Domain Targeted

Electrical core; digital (primarily due to the sheer number of companies in digital) and signals, which was something where I had more intrinsic interest. Did many projects in signal processing (out of interest) ever since my core course, EE229

Did many projects in signal processing (out of interest) ever since my core course, EE229. Texas Instruments was the only company which came for that role, so I felt like a natural fit

Preparation Resources

NPTEL courses for both content and exercises; GATE preparation questions

Entire syllabus of EE229, and read parts of DSP. For DSP, perhaps from an NPTEL courses or a well written handout. Simple logical reasoning puzzles are expected in interviews; resources from quant prep help. Brush up probability and random processes too, but just for the technical test

Interview Experience

1 technical test; 1 interview; offer

Lack of resources for preparation was a huge hurdle. At the end of the day, was forced to manage with what little I had, and trust myself to do well. Looking back, my solid foundations of signal processing helped me a lot

Difficulty rating (1-5): 2

Project Work

Estimation of transfer functions in the path between multiple receiver elements (antenna array) and input to a beamformer. Subsequent calibration of transfer function was also expected

Overall Experience

Was assigned a very senior mentor with no team-mates. The internship progressed very slowly hence. Had to consult my mentor for everything I needed, and he was able to take out only so much time each day. I didn’t like this all that much. But, made a lot of new friends (especially people from other universities) and enjoyed my time outside work

Networking Opportunities

Yes. Several.

Recommendation & Advice

Yes, Texas Instruments is a highly reputed company, and in the space of singal processing, they have several very interesting projects upcoming. The team is also looking to expand massively, so it is worth giving it a shot
