Basic Information
- Project Title / Domain: Channel Estimation in High Mobility Communication
- Name: Rishabh Shetty
- Guide: Kumar Appaiah
- Project Type: theoretical
Short Description of Project
High mobility communication suffers from inter-carrier interference which affects the orthogonality of subcarriers in OFDM, thereby increasing the transmission errors at the receiver. To mitigate this, various strategies like coded OFDM and OTFS are followed. My work is related to channel estimation under these scenarios which helps to increase the achievable rate in these transmission schemes
Whom did you work with?
The prof directly
Tools / Simulation / Software / Hardware
MATLAB for simulation of high mobility channel scenarios
Expectations from Guide
Whenever I am stuck on some problem, he helps me find the solution. We have quality discussion on the topic twice a week.
Expectations for 8th Sem & Summer
No, I didn’t stay on campus during summers as I was interning in a core company working on modem engineering. Professor was considerate about this because we had made good progress in the 8th semester
Load: 8th Sem vs 9th (Placement) Sem
Load? No one is forcing you to work on your project? It’s your final year project which you chose to work. I don’t understand why should it be a load on you.
Summer on Campus
I didn’t stay on campus but my internship was on control channels in cellular 5G systems, so I found it really useful for my project.
Is DDP Guide Same as SRE/RnD Guide?
Yes
How did your SRE help with your DDP?
My SRE helped me understand the fundamentals of modern wireless communication which was the basis for my work in my DDP. I got familiar with various problems faced in cellular communication systems and the strategies used for mitigating them.
End Deliverables
It’s a theoretical work which focuses on improving channel estimation in current communication networks, we are testing our algorithms and hope to see something useful come out of it.
Advice
Treat this like “your” final year project and not some formality that you are doing for getting your specialization degree. Try to choose something which you would like to do, so that you won’t be bored or be lazy about it and eventually call it a mental load. Talk to your seniors and professors who have worked on the topics that interests you. It’s always good to take up something which is relevant in academia and industry as you will get to read many articles and papers discussing the problem and potential solutions proposed by researches and current state-of-the-art.
