Expectations from Guide
Keeping reasonable expectations in terms of work and time from me. Glad to say, we found a good working point.
Expectations for 8th Sem & Summer
For the 8th semester, the expectation was to be regular in this work as I had already confirmed my interest in continuing the work from SRE. Not too hectic, but doing some or the other progress each or every other week. I had no plans of internship over the summer, but he had mentioned that if I was going to then we can make some plan to take the load off. I stayed in insti during May and some days in June.
Load: 8th Sem vs 9th (Placement) Sem
Load was upped during the 9th sem since we had not made much progress during the 8th sem. We had also picked up another problem statement to work on and the DDP 1 presentations are in October hence there was a sense of urgency needed. I had kept academic load fairly light with 1 major and 1 minor course which helped in managing the DDP with the placements.
Summer on Campus
Not much in my case, mostly because of me slacking off a bit. In hindsight, I could have put more effort in and lessened the eventual load in the 9th sem.
Is DDP Guide Same as SRE/RnD Guide?
Yes
How did your SRE help with your DDP?
SRE was a direct precursor of the DDP. A simplified setting of the DDP problem.
End Deliverables
I can tell once I am done with it :)
Advice
The amount of work and expectations are heavily dependent on the prof you work with. There is no point in comparing your load with somebody else. Prof will have their own expectations from you. It is best for both if the communication is clear and prompt.
